After the Polish black metal band HEGEMONE got 10/10 points for their current work „We Disappear“, it was of course a must to have an interview with the band. We talked to Kacper Jachimowicz about the new album, the Polish scene and plans for a tour.

I suppose that most of our readers haven’t heard that much about HEGEMONE so far, so please introduce yourself.
We are from Poznań, and we are doing metal since 2010. Just regular guys with same hobby. What more to tell.

Is there a special meaning behind the Band’s name?                                                                                       I think yes. When we have been choosing that name, because all the meanings of word “Hegemone” suited us. It is quite funny because in next years we have learned many other meanings of this name. So if you are asking about special meaning of our name – this special meaning is a lot of meanings.

Your latest record „We Disappear“ just has been released. What are your feelings about this? Are you satisfied?
We were already satisfied when we have heard this album after the final mastering process.  Personally I like very much the form of release. Dehn Sora (who is author of all graphics on “We disappear”) has made a lot of fine work, which I personally admire. Also, I must say, that many people have put 200% of their heart, time and blood to make this album been released, so finally when it is “public”, we can open a special bottle of wine and say “we made it!”.

Is there any special concept on that album. If there is, what`s the idea behind it?
Yes, there is. But you know – telling all about that will be like telling the ending of the film. I think the listeners will realize themselves what feelings are in these tracks.

You mix a lot of different genres and styles on the album. Where do your influences come from?
Everyone of us is quite from a different story. All of our ideas are combined in this album. We have had more conceptual writing process in case of “We disappear” than in times of “Luminosity”. But if you are asking about the riffs, rythms and melodies – it is effect of situation I have mentioned before – that everyone of us is listening different kinds of music and have very wide inspirations, but of course we have much in common.

The whole atmosphere on „We Disappear“ is quite dark and distressed and all those Keyboard-Sounds and Synthies add a spooky touch. Was that your intention?
Intention was to make the saddest album ever made! But seriously, Yes –  Tomasz (our keyplayer) likes some kind of  “different” sounds. These melodies and sounds are totally his. I can say that keyboard parts are totally combined with his personality – it is just his own kind of playing.

Let’s talk about the lyrics. What are they dealing with?
Lyrics and vocals are participating in these tracks like another one instrument. This time we would like to made these vocal parts more differential than in “Luminosity”. So You have there some clean vocals, screams, growls etc. We would like to follow this path in the future I think.

Karolina Sawicka from the polisch Trip-Hop/Post-Rock-Band Body Package contributed Guestvocals to the Song „Хан Тәңірi“. How did this cooperation come about?
In the beginning of “Хан Тәңірi“ writing process, the only thing we knew was how it will end. We have choosen the lyrics to sing in this part of song, but we haven’t got any vocalist to sing it. The idea was to have a little change in this part of the album, so we would like to choose someone unusual. There was a time, that my friend showed me his band – and this band was Body Package from city of Opole. We were enchanted with Karolina’s singing style, so I decided to contact her. The question was, if she will handle this kind of singing style – I mean folk-like one. And of course the original language of this part. We have met on recording session, and she did what we have had in our minds perfectly. Last days we have had some rehearsals together with her, so there will be some shows with that vocal part live.

The Cover of „We Disappear“ shows a monument or statue standing in something like a dessert. What is the meaning or intention behind this? Who made the artwork?
Like I said before, Dehn Sora is the one who made it. Our idea was to place the album in some kind of steppe enviorment. So this “desert” you have noticed it is Dehn Sora’s variation of a steppe. This monument is actually Tengrist, the tree of life.

You have released a video to the song „Raising Barrows“ which shows impressive landscape shots. Where was it filmed?
These are landscapes of Bergen in Norway. This clip was made by “Woda i Pustka” from Kraków. He went there specially to film it.

In the video we see a man in a mask walking through a forest. What is the story behind it?
As You probably have noticed we do not like to tell stories about our releases and lyrics (laughs). This is just an impression by “Woda i Pustka” – and you should ask him about it.

Are there already plans for a tour, possibly also to Germany?
Before summer we will play some shows in Poland, but a greater tour will happen this autumn. And yes we would like to visit Germany, since we have not been playing there yet.

What are your thoughts about the polish Metal-Scene?
This is a big one. Last years Poland became a serious player in worlds metal scene. I think that we have many great bands. Many of them are unknown in Europe and sometimes even in their cities. Personally I’m a fan of many bands that have maybe 10 people on concerts. It is a shame sometimes that they not trying to record a full album.

I would like to end the interview with the Metal1.info-Brainstorming. I’ll give you a few words and you’ll answer with the first one that comes to your mind.

Black Metal – The most “opened” genre in all of metal styles?

Your favorite Album in 2018 so far – Hard to say. Now I’m still in 2017 in this case so if you don’t mind I will mention some of 2017 that I’m into. For sure it will be “Immersion Trench Reverie” by Yellow Eyes. Also Blaze of Perdition’s “Conscious Darkness” is one of my favourite. In 2018 a good one is the second album by a polish group called Bleeding Moses – but this is not a metal thing. I recommend also an album called “Opia” recorded by MuN.

Nergal – I have not met him in person so I don’t know.

Germans – I know some guys from germany. Some I like, some I do not – like all people. I’m far from judging people by their nationallity. But I must say that German language is what I had problems with at school. And I still do not like it  (no offence guys!). Also I think that this is the most “unmusical” language in the world!

HEGEMONE in 10 years – More albums and gigs. And no personal changes.

Thanks again for your time!
